What do you pay attention to when purchasing an activity tracker?

In the March issue of Santé you will find the pros and cons of six fitness trackers. Do you want to buy one? Here we list what you should pay attention to.

  1. How expensive can your activity tracker be?
There are always activity trackers for sale in different price ranges. So something for everyone. In general, the more features you want, the price will increase.
  2. How big can your tracker be?
Some sports watches are designed for men and women. Do you have very small wrists? Then some models can look big or clumsy. In addition, make sure that the straps are available in different sizes and which size is suitable for which wrist circumference.
  3. Do you want a screen on your wrist or not?
Some trackers have a screen where you can easily view your activities. Sometimes you can even scroll through apps or read messages on your watch. Other trackers have no screen. To see how active you've been, check the corresponding app.
  4. Do you think it is important that your tracker is waterproof?
Some trackers are splash-proof, with others you can even shower and swim.
  5. Battery or rechargeable?
Many fitness trackers can be charged, but there are also models that work on a battery. The battery lasts for a few months and then needs to be replaced.
  6. Which features do you find important?
Depending on what you're going to use your tracker for, some of the extra features are very useful. With GPS you can record your running lap. A heart rate monitor provides insight into how intensively you exercise. Playing music can be a useful function at the gym and tracking your night's sleep can be very useful if you feel that you are not sleeping well enough.
