The main mission of the French Blood Establishment is to collect blood from donors to ensure self-sufficiency in blood products throughout our territory.
The next World Blood Donor Day will take place on June 14, 2016 and the French Blood Establishment (EFS) is calling for donations of vital importance. Indeed, during the summer holidays, the French tend to give less and stocks drop... At this time, reserves are already at their lowest. To encourage people to donate blood, the EFS has created educational content in the form of dynamic infographics to emphasize the importance of this gesture of solidarity. We let you discover it here!
We learn, for example, that 46% of the blood products collected are used for blood diseases and cancers and 34% during surgery. Transfusions are programmed at 42% while 34% relate to relative emergencies and 12% to vital emergencies. The beneficiaries of these transfusions are 48% to be over 75 years old, that is to say almost half. And these are 51% women. These life-saving transfusions are due to donors, 25.8% of whom are between 20 and 29 years old. There are also 324,330 new donors who made this nice gesture in 2015 and we hope to see this number increase this year. We women can even make 4 donations per year (against 6 for men). How about saving a life today?
We start or we start again!
