The childhood photo albums of future generations could now begin long before birth or the first ultrasound. In the United Kingdom, several in vitro fertilization centers offer to photograph future babies a few days after their conception.
Already nicknamed the "cellfie" (contraction of "cell", which means "cell" in English, and "selfie"), this practice makes it possible to witness cell division, from fertilization to implantation. It is made possible thanks to an embryoscope, that is to say an embryo incubator equipped with a camera, which films the evolution of the embryo thanks to time lapse technology.
Previously used for purely medical reasons, this device now allows future British parents having recourse to IVF to keep memories of their journey, from the beginning to the end. The first baby to benefit from this technology is called Jacie Jones and is now two years old. The little girl, all of whose photos are recorded in an album, will be able to observe her development, from her fertilization to her birth. Revolutionary ? We'll let you be the judge!
