After the "Light" and the "Zero", Coca-Cola is preparing to release a new version of its famous drink in Europe, ever lower in sugar:Coca-Cola "Life". In the new 330ml can, displaying a vibrant green color, there are 89 calories and…stevia.
Until then, in its sugar-free products, Coca-Cola used aspartame (an artificial sweetener) and acesulfame K. However, these two products are regularly criticized by specialists, fueling consumer mistrust to the point of to have reduced Diet Coke sales by 3% in 2012 compared to the previous year.
The brand, which sells 2.8 billion bottles worldwide every day, had also replied for the first time last year, based on more than 200 studies guaranteeing the safety of aspartame, and describing in their campaigns advertise their beverages as "quality products that always make you feel good".
After the launch of "Pepsi Next" with Stevia last year, Coca-Cola is stepping up a gear by also replacing aspartame with this aromatic herb from Paraguay, which contains natural sweeteners and has not been shown of toxic effects to date.
