Sharing a nap with your child is a rather commonplace practice for many parents, but it would not be without consequences for the little ones. The British organization specializing in advice for good sleep for babies Lullaby Trust warns:falling asleep with a baby on your chest increases the risk of suffocation as well as the risk of sudden infant death syndrome which is multiplied… by 50! And it's very serious:the association reveals that one in 6 cases of sudden infant death syndrome observed in England and Wales is due to this lying or sitting position, as The Independent reminds us.> .
Lullaby Trust recommends immediately placing the child in a crib or carrycot when you feel you are about to fall asleep. For nursing mothers, it is advisable to be in the presence of another person who can monitor the good progress of things or to adopt a position in which it is certain that one will not fall asleep, always according to expert advice. Finally, the organization – as well as the NHS, the British public health system – strongly advises against sleeping with a baby if you are a smoker, if you have consumed alcohol, if you are extremely tired and finally if the baby was born premature. It is imperative to remember this crucial advice and change bad habits, if there are any!
