In an era where "healthy food" is more popular than ever, brands well known for their fatty recipes that are far from promoting good health must adapt to new consumer desires. Fast food is obviously part of this category, McDonald's in the lead, which has prompted the British branch of the multinational to make significant changes in order to have a "cleaner" image. After displaying her ecological commitment by giving up plastic straws, she turned to the field of health, and more particularly that of children. McDonald's United Kingdom and Ireland has indeed collaborated with the famous site specializing in advice for parents Mumsnet to develop a new recipe that would better satisfy adults who take their little ones to fast food. Of the 1,000 site users surveyed, 78% said they would like to see a grilled chicken option on the Happy Meal menu.
The survey follows a discussion dating back to last year on Mumsnet in which the parents expressed their desire to be suggested a dish that would not be fried. Thanks to the wise advice of parents, but also grandparents and chefs, McDonald's has designed a wrap with grilled and "customizable" chicken. Children are free to add onions, cucumbers, pickles or tomatoes for 20 cents. The Happy Meal fries can be replaced by carrot sticks or a fruit salad and organic milk and water will be offered as a substitute for sodas. This is rather good news ! We hope that the novelty will make its way to French restaurants. If the meals at McDonald's must of course remain exceptional, this seems to be a good compromise to please the children without feeling guilty for making them swallow anything!
