Although you don't want to lie folded in half during yoga and you don't want to be able to do the splits, training yourself to become more flexible is not a bad idea.
1. After a day of sitting still, it's the least you can do for your body
Maybe you have a job where you sit all day, where you have to lift a lot of stuff or where you often bend over. Sitting can make your hips stiffer. And sitting, lifting, and bending over can make the area around your neck and shoulders stiff. It feels good and it's good for your body to do some exercises in the evening to loosen things up.
2. It ensures that you can perform other exercises more effectively
If you have a hard time getting into a squat position because your ankles are stiff and resisting, it becomes more difficult to perform an effective squat that demands all of your glutes. The same goes for several other exercises. Being flexible is therefore also useful in the weight room.
3. It's cheaper than a massage
A good way to make yourself more flexible is with a foam roller. A one-time expense, which certainly outweighs the hourly rate of a professional masseur. You can also use a fitness ball, for example, or massage your feet with a tennis ball:place a tennis ball on the floor and slowly roll your foot over it. Bring on those supple ankles.
