It can be wonderful to take in the sounds around you, especially if you're exercising outdoors. Still, there are plenty of reasons to turn on the music.
1. Music motivates
Too tired to exercise? An up-tempo song helps you to get motivated.
2. It distracts you
Some sports require repetitive movements, for example running, rowing and cycling. By listening to the music, you have a distraction.
3. It keeps you on pace
When you listen to music, you quickly adapt your movements to the rhythm of the music. So put together a special playlist for your workout. Songs with a good beat keep you on pace. Alternate them with slower songs for rest periods or to indicate intervals in your workout and finish with a slow song for the cooldown.
4. You can continue longer
When compiling your playlist, also pay attention to the total length of the list. A longer playlist can give you just that little push to keep going a little longer.
