We are increasingly moving, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The elderly and young people in particular are increasingly sporting.
Almost half of the Dutch people exercise enough. No less than 54 percent met the exercise guidelines of the Health Council.

Older people in particular have started to move more and more. The standard is 2.5 hours a week of moderate to intensive exercise. In 2001, 22 percent of the over-65s met this requirement, in 2019 this percentage had risen to 40 percent. 75 percent of the elderly do enough to bone and muscle-strengthening exercises.
Young people aged 12 to 18 also do better. In 2018, 34 percent exercised sufficiently. In 2019 this had increased to 41 percent. Although they meet the exercise guidelines less often, they exercise the most every week (71%)
No less than 74 percent of the Dutch who exercise every week are members of a sports association or have a subscription to a sports or dance school or a swimming pool.
