It must be admitted, it is not easy to go and donate blood. Between those who can't stand the sight of blood, those who feel dizzy after a standard take... It's hard to get started, and that's understandable. However, you have to know how to motivate yourself:blood donation is essential to save lives. In France, 8,000 donations are needed per day to help accident victims or patients who need blood products, which they cannot replace; there is no product capable of completely replacing human blood donation.
To motivate its inhabitants, Sweden has decided to set up an ingenious initiative. As part of a campaign to attract donors, people who have donated their blood will receive a thank you text when they leave the transfusion centre. The novelty is that once a patient has received a transfusion with this blood, and this anywhere in the country, the donor will receive another SMS thanking him for saving a life. A message that can only warm the heart and show people the usefulness of the gesture.
"We are constantly looking for ways to explain to people the importance of donating blood" explains Karolina Blom Wiberg, communications manager for the Stockholm City Blood Centre. "We want to give them feedback and thank them for their effort, and we think that's a good way to do it. » In France too, initiatives have been launched. On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, June 14, the French Blood Establishment and associations are mobilizing this Friday until Sunday.
In Paris, a large collection will be set up on the forecourt of the Hôtel de Ville. In addition, 300 collection sites will welcome all those who want to donate their blood. This may be the opportunity to go back, or to take the plunge for the first time!
