A coffee when you wake up, another in the morning at the office, a little after-dinner, another at four o'clock... Your drug is coffee. A little bit of fatigue, and you chain the cups to remedy it. However, the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) has just published the results of a study proving that too much caffeine is harmful to health. From 400 mg per day, which corresponds to four espressos, we take the risk of suffering from cardiovascular disorders. An espresso has 70 to 100 mg of caffeine. For a pregnant woman, it is twice as much. For a child or a teenager, it is necessary to count 3 mg per kilo and per day.
According to the EFSA spokesperson:“the health risk is not huge, but it is there, the main message is that consumers should take into account the different sources of caffeine, in addition to coffee » . Indeed, we consume caffeine without knowing it, because if it is present in coffee and tea, it is also present in energy drinks, sodas, and certain drugs acting against pain or colds. It is also found in chocolate or chewing gum. It is therefore easy to consume a large quantity without knowing it, which can cause sleep disorders, tachycardia, stress... Of the thirteen countries studied for the survey, seven consume too much caffeine. In France, 5.8% abuse it. In Denmark, they are 33%.
But rest assured, if caffeine has its faults, it also has its qualities. In moderate doses, it increases alertness and stimulates the body. A coffee (like KFC's gourmet coffee) has the advantage of giving you energy for very few calories:without sugar, a cup provides only two to five calories. Caffeine also has anti-migraine properties. So, if you like coffee, don't deprive yourself of it, but consume in moderation! Besides, what would we be without the Instagram of sexy guys who drink coffee?
