They make us laugh, crack up, allow us to meet people, boost our sex appeal, can detect certain cancers and even fill our dishwashers (with practice…)! Now we learn that dogs, in the first years of a child's life, can also prevent the risk of developing asthma!
This is the conclusion of a Swedish study, published in the journal "JAMA Pediatrics". After having followed more than 650,000 children, Professor Tove Fall from Uppsala University in Sweden and his team have indeed demonstrated that the company of the animal reduces the risk of asthma…by 15% (unless the child is already allergic – that's a bad idea). Besides the strengthening of the immune system, the other reasons are not yet explained by the researchers, who intend to carry out new studies to deepen the subject.
