This time researchers denounce an excessive amount of sugar contained in fruit juices and smoothies very popular with children. It's true that a little fresh fruit juice after a long day of work in the summer, to refresh yourself, is super pleasant:however, you have to banish this bad habit! These fruity drinks hide huge amounts of sugar!
Too much sugar so what?
The objective of this study published in the British Medical Journal in England was to know the quantity of “free sugars” available in 100 ml of drink (sugars added by manufacturers). The results are frightening! Fruit juices contain on average 7 grams of sugar per 100ml and smoothies can contain up to 16 grams of added sugar! Knowing that the recommended maximum daily intake of sugar for children in England is 19 grams, these drinks are too sweet and can eventually become the cause of many diseases:cavities, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease.
How to fight against this "too much sugar"?
Prevention campaigns will never repeat it enough:“eat at least 5 fruits and vegetables a day”! Well yes ! For your snack or your toddler's snack, prefer to eat fresh fruit and avoid industrial drinks! For smoothie addicts, learn how to make it yourself, it's simple and very good for your health.
