Running in the corridors of the metro, contracting your abs to (try to) stand up, climbing the stairs two by two to get to work on time… you would think that all of this is beneficial for our silhouette. Well no. According to a study conducted by The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), this is not the case. On the contrary, public transport would make us gain weight.
This study is based on solid data:the habits of more than 24 million English and Welsh people who take public transport or the car daily have been analyzed to arrive at such conclusions. The first reason mentioned by the study concerning this surprising weight gain:the duration of the journey. Yes, inevitably, we are not very active during the time spent in transport. And then, the more time we spend in buses, subways or cars, the less time we have for other more stimulating activities:walking, strolling, playing sports, cooking and even sleeping. And that's not all:taking public transport is also a source of stress and anxiety, which is not without consequences for our well-being and our health. During this stressful and not very pleasant period it must be said, our blood pressure increases and our nervousness with it. Result:when returning, users prefer to devour a good burger and lie down on their sofa rather than take the time to simmer a small dish.
Here we are warned. Not sure that we decide to make our 40 minutes of transport on foot. It might take a long time...
