"Barber Shop Syndrome". This is how this rare phenomenon, known to neurologists, is called. It was Dave Tyler, a 45-year-old Briton who recently paid the price. While he was hospitalized with a CVA (cerebrovascular accident), the doctors asked him a startling question:"Have you been to the hairdresser lately?" ". Two days earlier, the man was actually having his hair cut.
This question, which may seem surprising, has nevertheless allowed specialists to identify the cause of Dave Tyler's stroke:the shampoo stage. Shampoo tubs require customers to position their neck in a particular way, could lead to excessive pressure. In this man's case, it damaged an artery and created a clot which then lodged in his brain. This is the third reported case in 10 years:the first was found in Poole in 2000 and the second in San Diego in 2014.
After spending three months in hospital, Dave Tyler now walks around with a cane and suffers from visual impairment. He took the salon to court and finally obtained 90,000 pounds in compensation.
