From spring 2017, the Tampax brand will indicate the composition of sanitary tampons on the packaging. The company, under pressure for two years, would have ended up giving in. Indeed, several scientific studies had noted the presence in sanitary tampons of potentially toxic residues. If these substances are present in small quantities, they would still be responsible for toxic shock syndrome, a rare disease linked to menstruation and which can be fatal.
Tampax's lack of transparency on the composition of its products had angered many consumers, including Mélanie Dorflinger, who in 2015 launched a petition on the Change.org site. The goal ? Allow women to buy their intimate products knowingly. And the young student had managed to be heard since her petition had collected nearly 259,000 signatures! Snowball effect:in 2016, Tampax took the decision to indicate a few elements on the composition of the tampons inside the boxes. This year, the company has stated that it will provide even more precise information on the composition of its products, starting in the spring. The efforts are to be highlighted, but the young activist Mélanie Dorflinger remains perplexed and is waiting to see if the composition list on the packaging of tampons will be as exhaustive as that of cosmetic products.
We keep an eye out!
