It's hard to resist the temptation of a very sweet dessert or even (let's be crazy!) a candy from time to time. However, we know it:we must avoid eating too sweet (and too fatty, and too salty…). A study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine looked into the question of sugar addiction and the results are telling to say the least:according to the researchers, sugar is as addictive as certain drugs such as cocaine... with all the symptoms associated with it.
And that's not all:for these scientists, sugar could even be considered a "gateway" to alcohol but also other drugs. They add that sugar, like cocaine and opium, is refined from a plant to give "white crystals", a process which would add to its addictive properties. The consumption of sugar would thus have an impact on our mood, in particular because of the relationship of pleasure and reward that we have with it... Do not panic, however, the results of this study are to be confirmed, and it has already been qualified "absurd" by other scientists, arguing that sugar cannot be compared to hard drugs because stopping it does not cause cravings.
In any case, it costs nothing to try to reduce our consumption...
