Noise pollution is bad for your health and can cause ringing in the ears, attention problems and even increase stress. However, when you live in the city, it is not the noise pollution that is lacking, including at night. And that, for sleep, is fatal! So, if you are in the middle of an "auditory burnout" and a weekend in the countryside will not be enough, you can opt for a cure of silence. It's a bit drastic, but it works! Clearly, it is a moment of pause, where we resource and where we reflect on ourselves, all in complete silence. If the idea can be a little scary, the silent state has many benefits... We are curious!
Being immersed in silence is a unique opportunity to be able to savor the present moment and above all, to relax. This change of pace forces you to refocus on more essential things and to listen to yourself. The main activity during a cure of silence is meditation (well, we expected that a bit!), the aim of which is, most of the time, to help us solve problems or complex situations that the we cross. We (finally) enjoy a moment when silence is not awkward (and we don't feel obliged to speak, since it's forbidden anyway)! But being immersed in silence also means coming face to face with yourself, and facing your fears. During this exercise, we learn to tame them and discover another way of life, calmer. To start, we set the goal of remaining silent for 30 minutes. It doesn't look like much, but it's not bad! During this time, you turn off your phone and lie down (or sit down), then try simple breathing exercises, while thinking about your needs, your desires. Clearly, we think of positive things to progress in our projects or solve our problems. This short period should already relax us. Then, we gradually increase the duration, without stressing out if we don't last more than two hours (disconnecting is not always so easy). A cure of silence does not mean that we do nothing:we take the opportunity to think about reading, sewing... in short, about gentle and relaxing activities. The cure can be held from 30 minutes to several days, depending on the possibilities, desires and needs. It can be done at home (if you can isolate yourself), in a monastery during a retreat or even in a Relais du Silence, to discover on the website.
