Transhumanism is a movement that advocates the use of science to improve physical characteristics as well as skills, so as to obtain an "augmented" human being. Futurist? Not that much… New studies prove that the use of implants directly placed in the brain would increase our memory capacities. The Drapa (American Research Agency) had already conducted conclusive tests in 2014 on 12 volunteer patients, and researchers from the University of Southern California have recently confirmed these new possibilities... These studies could, in the long term, solve problems health!
20 other people have volunteered to undergo this surgery which consists of inserting an implant directly on the regions of the brain responsible for memory. How it works ? Thanks to this technology, we can send tiny electric shocks at the moment of memory, so as to "photograph" it in the mind... Creepy! The results, published at the meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Washington on November 14, 2017, demonstrate that the short-term memory of the participants would have been boosted by approximately 15%, and by 25% for the working memory, as explained by Science Post . The final objective would obviously be to once again put science at the service of health and to introduce this technology to those who suffer from memory problems, or even to treat Alzheimer's disease, which mainly affects the elderly. Finally, these implants could also allow humans to better assimilate knowledge and therefore learn faster.
So, will we ever have an infallible memory?
