Water is good for our health, we know it, we read it everywhere and yet... we get tired of it quickly. So, if we religiously avoid sodas which we know are much too sweet, we turn more easily to sparkling water, which has the merit of varying the pleasures a little. Well, that wouldn't be great actually... Beir Zeit University in Palestine did a study on the link between our satiety and our carbonated water consumption. Researchers have found that when we drink sparkling water, the level of ghrelin (the hunger hormone) is higher than when we drink still water. The cause ? It is the carbon dioxide contained in sparkling water that increases the level of ghrelin!
On a daily basis, it is not necessarily serious, but when we try to lose weight, it complicates our task even more… Yes:if drinking sparkling water increases our appetite, we risk eating more than expected ( and some goodies too! And if we needed another reason to avoid sodas, here it is:they also contain bubbles, therefore carbon dioxide, therefore have the same effect on our appetite!
With these beautiful words, we'll pour ourselves a glass of tap water!
