This expertise is that of Euromed, a plant extraction company with over 40 years of experience in the market for herbal medicines and food supplements. More than 5,000 tons of plants are extracted each year at its two production sites, one near Barcelona, which meets pharmaceutical standards, and the other in Murcia in Andalusia.
The company works with some thirty leading plant species on the herbal medicine market in Europe such as Milk Thistle, Hawthorn, Valerian, Passionflower, St. John's Wort, etc., which allows it to control the supply chains and to ensure consistent quality.
Based in Spain, Euromed is also a specialist in Mediterranean plants such as Pomegranate, Olive and Fig.
Quality, traceability and innovation, the watchwords of Euromed
Because it is essential to know the origin of plants and the way in which they were cultivated, Euromed makes it a point of honor to comply with Good Agricultural and Collection Practices. Contracts are signed with farmers, specifications are signed with suppliers who are audited regularly.
Where possible, local supply is preferred. Passionflower and lemon balm are of French production for example.
For some plants, the company has set up its own cultures. This is the case with Valerian.
Once received at the production site, the batches of plants are first identified visually. Samples are then taken for analysis:identification tests, search for falsifications, dosage of active compounds and undesirable substances (pesticides, micro-organisms, etc.).
About twenty people work in the analysis laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
In terms of innovation, Euromed is not to be outdone. The company recently inaugurated an innovation center which brings together the analysis laboratory and the Research &Development teams dedicated to improving existing processes and developing new products. The company has just launched ABAlifeTM, a fig extract that promotes the body's use of sugars after eating a meal.
Focus on superstar plants
Another fruit of Mediterranean origin, fresh pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a best-seller thanks to its beneficial action on ageing, cardiovascular and digestive health in particular. Backed by efficacy studies in humans, the Pomanox™ range showcases this pomegranate grown in Spain. Thanks to an innovative technology called Pure Hydro ProcessTM using demineralised water as the extraction solvent, all the natural properties of the plant are retained, without the use of any organic solvents, chemicals, synthetics or radiation.
This same extraction process, which respects the environment, is used to produce the Mediteanox™ range, extracts of Olives (Olea europea) concentrated in hydroxytyrosol, a polyphenol sought after for its antioxidant properties.
