We are familiar with the English expression 'no pain, no gain', but is it wise to continue exercising if you feel pain?
That's the question Fitsugar asked a trainer specialized in the field of injury prevention. His answer..?
Pain for the first time
When you first have pain in a certain muscle, you can generally just finish your workout. Certainly when you do a new sport or exercise, it is a very normal reaction of your body:you are not used to the movement yet. Then give your body enough rest and time to recover!
More pain
Do you often suffer from the same body part? Then it is extra important that you pay attention, because you do not want to get (chronically) injured. In case of burning pain or a pinched nerve, you should always stop.
Trust your gut
It remains a difficult question whether you should train through the pain. The most important thing is that you know and trust your own body well. If you are really in pain, stop and do not continue until you have sought advice from a professional.
