When you stand on one leg, you can hang in the hip of your standing leg. That is a natural reaction of the body, but it can cause you to lose your balance.

Fully extending your standing leg may seem like a good solid foundation, but that's not entirely true. By slightly bending the knee of your standing leg, you keep your muscles working, which makes it easier to maintain your balance.
