That's how you become that fit power woman

Are you unable to get anywhere due to, for example, home education with the kids, or because you just can't get ahead because of the whole corona crisis? Our sports experts Christina and Heidy also suffer from it, but now make short work of it and give tips to become a fit power woman.

This week Christina and I had a session with our business coach. As befits a coach, we were called to account. We couldn't cross anything off the list. How did that happen? Uh… lockdown, kids at home, homeschooling, we don't get much out of our hands… “On the one hand, I understand that,” she said. “On the other hand, there is always an excuse. What if the lockdown lasts for months? Or if there is a lockdown on lockdown?"

She was absolutely right, of course. We needed this wake-up call. At the same time, we realized that we are not the only ones. As a result, there are many women walking around who actually want to get more out of the day, who actually want to be fitter, who actually want to get rid of that dangerous belly fat, who actually want to get more out of themselves. That's why this blog. For ourselves and for you. Read three tips here to become that fit power woman.

1. Remove temptation from your life

It has never been easier not to be fit than during the lockdown. Gyms are closed. Only the food sector is open. So if you already go out once, you only have access to food. Therefore, the temptation is all around you. How can you minimize the temptation? By making your own environment as 'temptationless' as possible.

  • Make a shopping list without unhealthy things and only buy the things from the list. That way you can't be tempted at home.
  • Gym closed? Search online for the offer that suits you, purchase a subscription and schedule the training sessions like any other appointment.
  • Do your phone and Netflix often ensure that you get little out of your day and yourself? Turn off all your notifications and cancel your Netflix subscription. It's that easy.

Make a list of your temptations right now and do something about it. It really comes down to taking responsibility. Only you can change things.

2. Take responsibility

There's nothing easier than having an excuse. And there will always be.
Tasks not completed? Business goals not met? With the children around me, nothing gets out of my hands. Still grabbed that piece of chocolate again? The lockdown/working from home/home education is so tough, I earned that piece of chocolate. Working out at home? If the kids keep running around me, I can't do it. I don't have a mat. I don't have that discipline.

Do you recognize this? Remember Einstein's quote:"If you do what you did, you get what you always got."

If you're happy with that, you can leave it as is. However, aren't you happy with that sluggish feeling, with the feeling that you are constantly behind the scenes, with your belly fat or that you are out of breath when you walk to the attic?

Take responsibility and stop doing what you always did.

  • Make sure you don't have that chocolate in your house.
  • Make clear agreements with the children when it is your time or make a schedule with other mothers, so that you can all do your thing during parts of the day.
  • Or get up early. Buy a sports mat and other materials. Train before the kids wake up, write down what you're doing it for.

Don't go for the path of least resistance.

3. Find the resistance

To be able to do the above, it is important that you are mentally strong. You can practice this. By stepping out of your comfort zone. By looking for resistance. What is resistance?

  • The alarm clock if you actually want to stay in bed.
  • That self-development book if you want to watch TV.
  • Silence if you tend to always have your phone in your hand or music on.
  • Healthy food.
  • That high heart rate if you often opt for light workouts.
  • Those heavy weights if you don't like strength training.
  • That cold shower.

Find the resistance. This makes you stronger both physically and mentally. Start small, for example pick one thing and start with that. Choose a high heart rate. Take that 15 minutes of HIIT and not the 30 minutes of HIIT right away. Choose the cold shower. Start with 10 seconds and build up. I (Heidy) have been taking that cold shower for 2 years. I slowly increased this to two minutes. Every morning this is looking for resistance. Every morning I don't think today. But then I miss that powerful, fresh, awake feeling afterwards, so I do it. In this way you train yourself to choose the path of the most resistance. That ultimately ensures that you become that fit power woman.
