It was on the set of "4 truths" on France 2, that the Minister of Health Olivier Véran announced free contraception for women under the age of 25 . While the IUD and the pill were already free for minors, from January 1, 2022, all contraception will become free. The goal is to allow women, and more particularly students, not to skip contraception because of its expensive price!
During this interview, the Minister of Health explained the objective, and above all, how this new measure would work. "There will be support for hormonal contraception, biological assessment, which can go with it, prescription contraception and all the care that is related to this contraception up to the age of 25 “, detailed Olivier Véran. Thus, students will be able to benefit from all the necessary care without having to pay a fee. This new measure will come into effect as of January 1, 2022.
The age limit for this measure was not chosen at random. The Minister explained that it is "an age that corresponds (...) to more autonomy. This is also the age at which one leaves the complementary health care of one's home permanently (…), below which according to studies, too many women give up contraception because it is expensive ". “There is a decline in contraception among a number of young women and the first reason is giving up for financial reasons (…). It's unbearable that women give up contraception n ”, specifies the Minister of Health. It is a real relief for all the young women who were forced to give up on it.
