Although it may sometimes seem old-fashioned, drinking herbal tea is surely one of the most effective ways to increase life expectancy in women. Indeed, a study published in The Gerontologist demonstrates the interest of chamomile in reducing fatal health risks.
This research was conducted by the Medical University of Texas at Galveston. The researchers analyzed the results obtained by an epidemiological study carried out on 1677 men and women of Hispanic origin. This sample population is on average over the age of 65 and lives in the southernmost states of the United States.
The results are striking, regularly consuming chamomile infusions would reduce the risk of death in women by 29%! Why specify in women? Because it would have no effect on men… Researchers remain skeptical, why the woman and not the man? Bret Howrey, one of the authors of this research, thinks that this may be due to the fact that women are more used to consuming this type of product.
This isn't the first time chamomile has been celebrated by a study as a miracle cure. Indeed, in 2008 a study had shown that these infusions could considerably reduce diabetes. So, now if you're teased for drinking herbal tea, you know what to say!
