Premenstrual syndrome:according to a study, nature could reduce symptoms

Premenstrual syndrome:a female disease

The syndrome premenstrual syndrome is still little known and often mocked. It manifests itself in a series of symptoms ranging from irritability to fatigue intense through headaches. Intensity of premenstrual syndrome is variable according to women and generally appears the days which precede the rules and stops when they appear. This syndrome affected approximately 20 to 40% of women of childbearing age. And if it is not considered a disease as such, PMS can significantly affect the quality of life of those who are victims . According to Kai Triebner , a researcher at the University of Bergen, "stress can worsen symptoms of PMS and increase levels of the hormone cortisol, which, in turn, may be associated with increased release of progesterone, correlated with onset of PMS symptoms" .

The benefits of nature on women

A study carried out by the Barcelona and Bergen Institute for Global Health has highlighted the possible impact between green spaces and reduction of symptoms of PMS . The study was carried out among 1,000 women aged 18 to 49 who live in Norway and Sweden. First of all, the common symptoms were highlighted. following:depression, crying spells, heightened sensitivity, abdominal bloating, headaches, anxiety and irritability. The researchers then found that women who, throughout their lives, live in areas where nature is accessible and present, are less likely to feel symptoms of PMS than those who live in less green neighborhoods .

“Three of the four symptoms who have improved with exposure to green spaces were psychological, which is consistent with what we already knew:contact with nature helps reduce stress and improve health mental“ noted the study's lead author, Kai Triebner . In essence:it is not by going to the countryside one weekend a year that your symptoms will decrease.
