Showing solidarity on social networks with people affected by breast cancer is good, but helping to prevent the disease is better. This is the message from Erin Smith Chieze, an American who realized in time that she had cancer thanks to a photo shared by a contact in December 2015. posted an image on Facebook showing what breast cancer looks like. Not the pain it generates, but what it looks like. […] When I spotted an indentation similar to one in this picture, I knew I had breast cancer “, she explains in a text posted on her Facebook page. The following month, she was diagnosed with advanced stage breast cancer (4). The publication will therefore have saved her life, and she wants the same for all the people who are unaware that they have the disease.
That's why the young woman shared a powerful photo from the Worldwide Breast Cancer charity's "Know Your Lemons" campaign. We see twelve lemons which represent as many forms in which breast cancer can manifest. They are:a lump, indentation, erosion, redness or warmth, strange fluids coming out of the nipple, small dots (dimple-like), a bump, a more visible vein, a retracted nipple, dimples (skin orange), a change in the shape or size of the breast and an invisible tumor. If any of these characteristics persist, do not hesitate to speak to your doctor, underlines the association. And to proceed correctly with the self-examination, we rely on this video posted on Youtube in which the breasts of a man are taken as an example for questions of censorship (the Free the Nipple movement still has a bright future ahead of it !).
In any case, Erin Chieze's message has not gone unnoticed, since it has been taken up more than 41,000 times since January 10, 2017. We hope that the initiative will help as many people as possible. Come on, we're sharing too!
