Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women. A young Mexican high school student, Julian Rios Cantu, faced with this disease decided to act.
Inspired by the battle of his mother, who suffered two breast cancers and a double mastectomy, the student created a bra capable of detecting the disease. “Initially, the tumor was the size of a grain of rice. In less than six months, its dimensions had become those of a golf ball. The disease was diagnosed too late, and my mother lost both her breasts, almost her life." , he told Higia Tech.
Breast removal is a difficult decision. However, despite the taboo that surrounds it, more and more women are choosing to do it for prevention. It's the Angelina Jolie effect! But sometimes, the diagnosis falls too late and the cancer takes place.
A difficult ordeal that motivated the 18-year-old student to participate, in his own way, in this fight. Hey, that's a technological breakthrough!
With three colleagues from his company Higia Technologies, he gave life to "Eva", a connected bra. Unusual underwear that looks like a sports bra. It is equipped with 200 sensory sensors that assess the temperature, texture, weight and color of the skin of the breasts. It is enough to wear it between 1h and 1h30 per week. Nothing compelling! And then it's for a good cause, better safe than sorry!
The information collected by this bra is then sent via bluetooth to an analysis application which then transmits the results to the patient and her doctor. Convenient!
But be careful, in no case does this bra replace a palpation or a mammogram. This is an additional means of detecting breast cancer, which in France causes nearly 12,000 deaths per year.
By winning first prize at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards and thanks to his $20,000 reward, Julian Rios Cantu hopes to patent this bra and market it. That's all we wish for him!
