Long a taboo subject, menstruation is gradually being "demonized" in the media and among men, to the point that some men even want to "help" women manage this period. In addition to all the disturbing and painful "symptoms" that they can cause women every month, protecting themselves from menstruation is not always easy, the solutions not being very numerous. Not convinced by sanitary napkins, tampons or menstrual cups? Daniel Dopps, an American chiropractor living in Kansas, searched for a solution and developed... a vagina glue, to hold back blood flow. No, it's not a joke. Unfortunately.
Called Mensez (from “menses”, English abbreviation of “menstruation”), this glue takes the appearance of a lipstick (we are not a cliché, huh!) and promises to glue the lips of the vagina , so that blood does not flow. Presented on the official website as a natural product based on amino acids and oil, it can be eliminated through urine. Thus, when a woman goes to the toilet to urinate, she will eliminate the blood accumulated until then, and apply the glue again. Daniel Dopps sees this “safe and hygienic” protection as a replacement for pads and tampons, in the sense that it limits the risk of infection more. We are not so sure... How can a product that resists urine resist blood? How to apply this product yourself on an area that is impossible to see in full, except with a mirror? And, since the lips of the vagina aren't supposed to be joined all the time, aren't the risks of infection higher? These are the questions that many have asked themselves when reading the description of this (absurd!) project that women do not want, and that they have never asked for!
Interviewed by a Forbes journalist, Daniel Dopps said he had women's health at heart, and wanted them to avoid worrying about their periods all day long… And when we told him about the sexist accusations he made object, the chiropractor defended himself by answering "Yes, I am a man, but you women should have found better solutions than diapers or plugs. But you didn't. " Better and better ! Daniel Dopps has so far only obtained the patent for this stick, and is looking for companies that can develop and market it. Like any medical product, Mensez will first have to obtain authorization from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration, an American agency that deals with food and drug products), before being clinically tested. In any case, we hope NEVER to see this product on the market!
