Sparkling water is the slightly funkier option than still water, when you don't want to drink a sugary drink or alcohol. Except that, despite its harmless airs, sparkling water would actually be dangerous for the teeth, more specifically for the email. This is in any case what wishes to know an English dentist, Dr. Adam Thorne, who explains that “most people do not know that sparkling water is extremely acidic”. And yet, it has a pH of 3 on the acidity scale. As a reminder, we are talking about neutral pH at 7. Sodas and sparkling water are thus at 3, fruit juices around 3.4, wine around 3.6 and salad dressing (with vinegar ) to 3.6.
For this dentist, the problem comes from the fact that we consume drinks such as smoothies, coffee, fruit juices and therefore sparkling water throughout the day. “These are acidic drinks that attack the teeth. It takes three hours for tooth enamel to recover,” he told the Daily Mail . Erosion of the enamel leads to pain, yellowing of the teeth and increased sensitivity. It can even affect the health of the teeth. Not great! To avoid erosion of the email, the dentist recommends not drinking throughout the day, but drinking the glass of sparkling water all at once. If possible, a straw can even be used to avoid contact with the teeth. We also avoid snacking all day, to give the email time to "recover" after a meal.
Clearly, sparkling water, yes, but not all the time!
