We know that all our fruits and vegetables are more or less contaminated by pesticides. However, some are less so than others. This is nevertheless the conclusion of a study carried out by the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention between 2012 and 2016 and relayed by the Générations Futures website. According to scientists, out of 19 types of fruit, 75% contain traces of pesticides. An alarming figure!
Thus, among those that were the most affected, we find:grapes, clementines, mandarins, cherries and grapefruits… Conversely, those at the bottom of the list would be kiwis, avocados, plums and Mirabelle plums. This would be due to the types of insecticides used and the permeability of the fruit.
As for vegetables, pesticide residues were found in 41% of the types analyzed, the vast majority (70%) of which were in celery, fresh herbs and endives. Oops…
Apparently it would be better to bet on corn, asparagus and yams.
However, no official recommendation has been established concerning the "real risks" of pesticides on health... In the meantime, it would be no worse to reduce the consumption of these infected fruits and vegetables, for the benefit of others!
