If the coronavirus pandemic takes away many pleasures, it will not prevent us from devoting to one of the great pleasures of winter, namely the fondue. Switzerland Cheese Marketing (SCM), in charge of communication and promotion of cheeses from Switzerland, has just spoken about this oh so friendly ritual to announce good news to Humanity:" Nothing stands in the way of enjoying a cheese fondue in its usual environment. Whether you are sitting at the same table with your family or friends to eat any dish or a cheese fondue, the risk of contamination by Covid-19 is just as low in both cases. "
A study that goes even further by stating that the risk of contamination would be even lower by the fact that a fondue is eaten with skewers or long forks implying distancing and absence of hand contact. The SCM, which after consulting experts from the European Food Safety Authority and the Swiss Federal Health Offices, also asserts that:"so far, there is no evidence that food can be a source of infection and no evidence of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 via food has been documented."
In addition, "there is also no conclusive evidence of transmission of the virus through contact with contaminated objects, a fondue fork, e.g. ".
On the other hand, even if sharing a fondue with friends is possible, the SCM has nevertheless recommended to respect the rules of safety and hygiene, and us, not to put a wire in it...
