Do you often have headaches from banging your noggin against the wall? How about trying meditation and yoga to combat these attacks? This is what British researchers recommend, praising the merits of MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction), better known in France as "stress reduction through mindfulness".
To reach this conclusion, 19 migraine sufferers were divided into two groups. On the one hand, ten people followed the sessions of this technique of meditation and yoga, up to 45 minutes five times a week, while the remaining nine received only medication adapted to their disorder.
The finding? "Participants in the MBSR program were found to have significantly less painful migraines (1.4 fewer migraines) and shorter duration," says neurobiology researcher Rebecca Erwin Wells, who adds that these patients would be more successful in controlling their ailments.
The researchers will now analyze these effects on a larger and more representative sample of the population. But in the meantime, if we too have a headache, we give it a shot!
