We owe this information to a new study that required seven years of research and analysis. Led by Dr. Michael Orlich, it brought together a whole panel of people to determine whether diet has an impact on colon cancer.
A diet rich in omega-3 and fiber
The results showed that, regardless of whether or not they smoked or had a family history, on par with carnivores, vegetarian participants were almost a quarter less likely to get the disease. An even higher decrease for those who do not eat meat but still consume fish:almost a one in two less chance of contracting this type of cancer! This is explained by the high level of omega-3 in fish, which is a well-known element to reduce the risk of such diseases. As for individuals who do not eat any animal matter, the results of the study show that it is their consumption of fibres, very present in plants and vegetable matter (which replace meat and fish in vegetarians), which plays a positive role.
A diet rich in fiber and omega-3, to reduce the risk of contracting colon cancer, are you for or against?
