Quitting smoking is one of the main resolutions at the start of each new year. Admittedly, this represents a real ordeal where you have to show unfailing will and determination, but the growing number of victims of tobacco can cause a real click in many smokers. And the latest information revealed by the Reuters agency and taken up by the Huffington Post US are not encouraging:tobacco will kill a third of smokers in 2030 (i.e. more than 30% of the world's population) more than today.
The study, conducted by 70 scientists from the World Health Organization and the National Cancer Institute in the United States, specifies that "deaths linked to tobacco consumption should increase from 6 million per year to 8 million per year by 2030, and 80% of them will affect people in low- and middle-income countries”. And the industry-related numbers are equally impressive:tobacco costs the global economy more than a billion euros every year, whether in healthcare or lost productivity.
