Women snore as much as men

We must admit:when it comes to snoring, we often show sexism by saying that all men snore while women are rare in this case... But a study led by Nimrod Maimon, professor at Ben-Gurion University in Israel, shows that the reality is quite different. He conducted a study on 1,913 men and women for 2 years by evaluating their level of snoring when they sleep and having them complete a self-assessment questionnaire on their level of snoring (=if they think they snore). And it turns out that 88% of women snore compared to 93.1% of men. But, on the questionnaire, 28% of women said they did not snore, while on the side of men, they were 6.9% to have answered that.

A health problem

In addition to showing that women do not know or do not want to admit that they snore, this study highlights the fact that this attitude can be dangerous for their health. Snoring is one of the main symptoms of sleep apnea. And if women underestimate their snoring, it prevents them from realizing that they may have sleep apnea, a condition that affects concentration during the day (the person will have periods drowsiness in the middle of the day), on memory, mood and in the long term, can even present a risk to health (it is a cause of death).

If you snore frequently (and not just when you have a stuffy nose), it is recommended to see a sleep doctor (at a university hospital or a specialized clinic). Ladies, you have been warned!
