First some numbers! Each year in France nearly 58,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed. 50% of them are between 50 and 69 years old and about 28% after 69 years old. Thus, a screening program organized by mammography every two years is offered to all women aged 50 to 74. In younger women without particular risk factors, no organized screening has been implemented to date. However, an annual breast palpation by the doctor or gynecologist is recommended from the age of 25. But it is often following a self-examination that the patient discovers a mass in her breast, which then encourages her to consult a doctor. This was the case for Fanny Leeb, the eldest daughter of Michel Leeb.
The 33-year-old singer has just confided to TéléStar magazine, the way she discovered that a cancerous tumor had settled in one of her breasts, it was in December 2018.“I was in studio working on my songs. I went to make myself a tea and a door closed behind me, spraying boiling water on my cleavage .Two days later, I look at the state of the burn and I notice a lump” . And to recognize that:"this burn certainly saved my life . I wonder if a guardian angel wouldn’t have closed this door on me…”
From then on, the singer will bend her chest in the face of this particularly aggressive cancer whose proliferation rate was “very fast “:“I had decided from the start not to be afraid. I threw myself into battle with my fists raised with only one thing in mind:to knock out this cancer. », she explained last September in the columns of Gala. A strength of character that allowed him to bear the heaviness of chemotherapy treatments while continuing to lead his life as an artist. “After the injections, there were about two days when I felt good enough to work. And then the tornado (…) happened. Terrible. I had joint pain, nausea, extreme fatigue, more strength. I was so bad in my body… But I said to myself tighten the buttocks, it will pass (…) Music has helped me a lot to keep my nerves ". Heavy treatments that stopped at the end of July 2019.
Since the big sister of Tom Leeb (who will represent France at Eurovision on May 16 in Rotterdam) discovers the afterlife, that of a survivor of breast cancer:“I am no longer the same as before my cancer. (…) Before I was fragile, hypersensitive… Today, I feel strong and confident “, she says.
As a reminder, breast cancer discovered at an early stage, that is to say at an early stage of the disease, can be cured in 9 out of 10 cases. Currently, more than 87% of patients are alive 5 years after diagnosis thanks to advances in research. We will therefore never cease to recall the importance of not kidding with screening. Good luck!
