Being pregnant is not easy, between the different pregnancy symptoms and anxieties , everything is jostling in your head. It's normal ! But on the other hand, it is essential during the next nine months to respect the precautions to be taken , particularly in terms of diet . Indeed, what we eat or drink plays a big role in the growth and health of the future baby . It is not only a question of giving it all the nutrients essential to its development, but also and above all of not transmitting germs to it. or infections.
Some diseases can be transmitted by food , we call it toxi –food infections and they can have serious consequences for the fetus. Among them we find toxoplasmosis caused by the parasiteToxoplasma gondii present in meat and vegetables. Often mild, it nevertheless affects non-immune pregnant women in whom the parasite can cross the placental barrier. To be sure, a blood test is systematically carried out at the start of pregnancy.
Listeriosis , caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, is also one of the food infections to be taken seriously, even if it is rare. Every year about 400 cases are recorded in France. In pregnant women, it often goes unnoticed by manifesting itself in the form of contractions or flu syndrome. However, the infection is very real and can endanger the life of the fetus and cause, in some cases, abortion or premature birth.
Finally, there is also salmonellosis , a bacterium from the Enterobacteriaceae family that can also contaminate various foods. Moreover, it can be dangerous for future mothers if it takes a more severe form. It is manifested by high fevers, diarrhea which can lead to contractions or even premature delivery.
In addition to alcohol , other foods considered most at risk of contamination are to be avoided during a pregnancy. To prevent listeriosis, we think of certain soft cheeses with a bloomy rind (camembert, brie type), with risen crust (Munster type) with raw milk. Raw meats or undercooked, smoked meat and fish , marinated or dried, are also not recommended as these uncooked products can be contaminated with toxoplasmosis or listeriosis, just like raw shellfish . Also, refrain from consuming foods made from raw eggs , of germinated seeds raw or extracted from soya .
