In France, nearly 40,000 French women would be affected by this warning. On July 27, the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) published a press release on the Ancora and Novaplus IUDs (alone or in a Sethygyn installation kit) , manufactured by the Spanish company Eurogine. Health authorities recommend the "non-emergency" removal of these intrauterine devices (IUDs) inserted in 2017, 2018 and until March 2019 . As a reminder, a few years ago, a recommendation in this direction was made following numerous reports. It was therefore advisable to have them removed after three years of wearing them.
According to the ANSM, the IUDs in question present several dangers including a risk of spontaneous expulsion . Abdominal pain, irregular bleeding or pain during sexual intercourse can be suggestive signs. And that's not all. With this lack of stability another risk is possible:the ineffectiveness of the IUD as a means of contraception . This can, in some cases, lead to unwanted pregnancies. But be careful Thierry Thomas, deputy director of the ANSM in charge of medical devices, delays. He explained to AFP that "it is a precautionary measure , without urgency, to be planned during the consultation with your gynecologist".
