Yvonne (29) is training for the Zuiderzee Classic. On September 28, 2013, she cycled 220 kilometers. She blogs about her preparations for Sante.nl.
Yvonne: What would you do if you could use your hobby to raise money for a good cause? Participate! Right?
I am Yvonne, 29 years old and I love cycling. Unfortunately, when I came into contact with the Zuiderzee Classic in 2012, I was unable to participate, but I immediately knew for sure:in 2013 I will be there. For those who are not familiar with the Zuiderzee Classic; it is a bicycle tour that raises money to fund research into colon cancer, initiated by the Maag Lever Darm Foundation. Because unfortunately colon cancer is common, colon cancer is even in the top three of most common forms of cancer. Every day 13 people die from this disease.
So no sooner said than done. Well done? I'm going to cover 220 km on the racing bike. At least, I signed up for this distance. And yes, that was free choice. I could have also opted for 60 or 120 kilometers. But I want my sponsors to see my sporting performance as a challenge, so it has become 220 km.
Traveling 220 km is a nice stretch. So I'm not going to cycle alone. To make it more fun on the road (and secretly easier too;-) ) at least two ladies ride with me, Jacomina and Eline. I'm going to try to motivate a few more ladies to ride along. I will also intensify my training. Fortunately, with this beautiful weather I have already been able to make some kilometers, only I want to increase the frequency and distances. So a lot will have to be done in the near future.
In the coming weeks I will keep you informed of my preparations. 220 kilometers. It's going to be tough, but I'm up for it. I want to do something, do something against colon cancer.
Don't want to cycle but still want to do something? Of course you can also sponsor our team! Go to www.zuiderzeeklassieker.nl, go to participants and search for Yvonne Huis in 't Veld or 'Zee Sterren'. Help us on our way to a nice sponsorship!
