Skinny jeans are not always unanimous... Too tight, not comfortable, they are now responsible for a major health issue:back pain. Does that sound crazy to you? However, it was a serious study, carried out by the British Chiropractic Association (BCA), which revealed it. Researchers have looked at the fact that women sometimes put fashion before their health, especially when it comes to clothing and accessories that have an impact on the back. And if you thought heels were your back's worst enemy, it turns out that it's skinny jeans.
In the top 5 clothes/accessories related to back pain, skinny jeans therefore come first, followed by “oversized” bags and/or worn on the side, coats with a large fur hood, high heels (ah anyway!) and shoes that are not closed at the back, like mules.
So what's the deal with skinny jeans? The fact that the pants are tight at the hips and knees forces the person wearing them to hold themselves differently, says BCA chiropractor Tim Hutchful. The study also reveals that 28% of women are aware of the negative effect of certain clothes on health, but do not take this into account when choosing clothes. And 33% are not aware of it at all.
So, are we throwing away all our skinny jeans and heels? But nooooo! The BCA simply recommends variety. No skinny jeans every day, we alternate with wider pants, just like for the handbag or the heels:not every day and we vary the models (height or "heaviness" of the bag, which we empty regularly ). In addition, they warn about the importance of having good underwear:an effective bra prevents you from compensating with the shoulders.
Well, we have been warned!
