We finally know why periods are painful

Many women dread their arrival every month, because menstruation can be a real ordeal:migraines, abdominal pain, mood swings, back pain... So many problems faced by eight out of ten women, affected by the symptoms. premenstrual syndrome (PMS). A study, published in the Journal of Women's Health and relayed by The Independent, finally sheds light on the cause of all these ailments.

The big culprit is the "C-reactive protein" (or "protein C reactive" in French). Called CRP by the researchers, it is a protein synthesized mainly by the liver, which plays an important role in inflammatory reactions. And in women who experience menstrual pain, the level of this protein in the blood is higher. She would therefore be responsible for the premenstrual syndrome experienced by more or less 80% of women. Through this study, researchers from the University of California hope to understand the link between the protein and premenstrual pain, to enable the medical profession to better prevent it, by prescribing suitable anti-inflammatory drugs to women suffering from PMS.

So, now that we have unmasked the culprit, can we expect an effective treatment soon? What is certain is that it would change the life of more than one woman!
