This one, we didn't see it coming:spending more than two hours behind the wheel a day would stupefy us in the same way as spending more than 2 hours in front of the TV! According to a recent British study conducted by researchers at the University of Leicester, of all daily activities, driving would prove to be the most worrying for our brain, and more particularly our IQ, the famous intelligence quotient.
We knew that driving (in the case of journeys of more than 3 hours) was bad for the heart because of the stress, it is now our gray matter that would be impacted. Our brain would thus be at a standstill when driving because it is not solicited. The Leicester researchers put 500,000 people aged 37 to 73 on IQ tests. Like when we watch TV, when we drive for a long time, our brain comes to a standstill. Physical inactivity is therefore not in question because the scientists of the university explain that video games or the computer make our brains work. Driving causes stress and fatigue, which is one of the reasons why our brains are inactive.
So, the next time we have a choice, we'll take public transport, the opportunity to read and see people!
