If France has 3.5 million diabetics, in the United States, they are more than 30 million to be affected by this disease. To fight against this scourge, an American start-up took an interest in diabetes-related complications and had the idea of creating a connected sock. Why ? Because in the United States, nearly 100,000 diabetic patients are amputated each year.
This phenomenon is due to poor regulation of diabetes. The sugar that circulates in the blood then narrows the arteries, which causes a drop in the oxygen supply and which can therefore lead to amputation, most often in the level of the feet. The connected sock designed by Siren Car makes it possible to measure the temperature of the feet in real time thanks to sensors, then to alert the patient, via an application, in the event of inflammation of the skin.
To verify the effectiveness of this device, clinical tests are planned with the University of UCSF in San Francisco. But the start-up has chosen not to wait for the results to market its connected socks, since these are already on sale on the company's website, at a price of 120 dollars.
